Yusuf İzzeddin Family:
Yusuf İzzeddin Efendi's wives were Mrs. Câvidan, Fâika Tâzende, Emine Nâzikedâ and Leman; his children were Mehmed Nizameddin Efendi, Hatice Şükriye and Mihriban Mihrişah Sultans.
Yusuf İzzeddin Efendi (1857-1916):
He was the son of the Ottoman Sultan Sultan Abdülaziz. He was the heir apparent when his father passed away. Born on October 10, 1857 in Dolmabahçe Palace, his mother was Dürrinev Başkadınefendi. When he was born, his uncle Sultan Abdülmecid was on the throne. At the age of 10, he joined a trip to Europe with his father. On September 1, 1871, he was appointed as the commander of the Hassa Army with the rank of müşir by Sultan Abdülaziz. At the age of 19, his father was deposed and shortly afterwards he was found dead with his wrists slit.
On April 27, 1909, when Sultan Mehmed V ascended the throne, he became the heir apparent, the oldest male in the dynasty after the sultan. He represented the Ottoman Empire abroad as the crown prince. During World War I, he clashed politically with Enver Pasha. He was found dead in his mansion in Zincirlikuyu on February 1, 1916, before he could ascend to the throne. His body was buried in the Mahmud II Mausoleum next to his father Abdülaziz.
Tevfik Biren (1867-1956):
Tevfik Biren (1867-1956) was a statesman who served in high-level positions such as minister and governor during the last period of the Ottoman Empire. He was the last Minister of Finance of the Ottoman Empire and the last head of the Council of State. After the fall of the Istanbul government, he gave lectures at the School of Higher Engineering, and continued his academic career with the title of “professor ordinaryus” after the university reform.
He married Naciye Neyyal Hanım, one of the first female painters in the Ottoman Empire, and had three daughters from this marriage. He was the father of women's rights activist, translator and writer Necile Tevfik, painter Meliha Tevfik (Yenerden) and Güzin Tevfik.
His memoirs were published in two volumes by his granddaughter Rezan Hürmen in 1993 under the title Abdülhamit II, Constitutional Monarchy and Armistice Period Memories.

Following the death of the heir apparent Yusuf İzzeddin Efendi in 1916, Mehmed Tevfik (Biren) Bey took over the administration of his estate as the guardian. In this process, the documents, which were shaped around issues such as the distribution of income among family members, expenditures made and the management of the estate, reached a significant volume over time and became an independent collection.

The document was obtained from a bookseller who purchased it from the daughter of Tevfik Biren, the guardian of Yusuf İzzeddin Efendi's family.

Scope and content
When the heir apparent Yusuf İzzeddin Efendi passed away in 1916, Mehmed Tevfik Bey (Biren) assumed the administration of his estate as guardian. The documents, which were shaped around issues such as the distribution of income among family members, expenditures made, and the administration of the estate, reached a significant volume and eventually became an independent collection. The collection, consisting of 4,048 documents produced between 1916 and 1968, is organized in 17 folders and 1,330 files.
